We have always wanted to live on the island.

We swore we would visit every year but we never did. Now that we are of retirement age we started looking for homes to buy on the island. That is when we came across an old hotel for sale and we got the brilliant idea to open up our own little hotel on the island. This turned out to be a lot of work. The hotel was in bad shape. The roof leaked, the floors needed to be redone, and the HVAC system was largely shot. This old hotel had a PTAC system. I am sure you have seen them. They are those window heaters and coolers that are built into the walls of many hotel rooms. They are always super noisy. This hotel was no exception. Also, most of the units didn’t work. We thought of getting zone control HVAC for the whole hotel. That way there, each room gets its own thermostat. But, ultimately, we decided to get underfloor heating and cooling installed. That way, each room still gets its own thermostat but the heating and cooling systems are dead quiet.That turned out to be a great investment. The gusts love the heated and cooled floors and many have stated that they will always come back to our hotel because of them. It is hard to keep up with all of the demand and, I have to say, I have never worked so hard in my life.
