I adore fall.
It is my favorite season, then summer is still trying to hang on even though I see that the afternoons are starting to get both shorter as well as cooler. I long for the afternoons when I can turn off my cooling system and, maybe, even turn on my heater. I live in the South, so we don’t get a real winter, but it can get a bit chilly at times; My Grandma lives in the North. I remember, as a kid, going up to visit his almost every Thanksgiving. She has this sizable outdated fireplace that was always on as well as heating the home during the fall as well as winter. The odor of wood burning will always remind me of the holidays. I just wish it got cold enough in the South to justify getting a real fireplace. And, not only getting the fireplace but using it too. I have one of those fake, plastic fireplaces. It is really just a space heater with lights that sort of look like flames. My home doesn’t even get cold enough for central heating. It has been a lot of years since I have gone up to Grandma’s home for Thanksgiving. Since we have grown up, we haven’t taken any family trips up North for a long time… Despite what the rest of the family does, I suppose I will visit Grandma this fall or winter, and grandma will be thrilled because he gets to see me. I will be thrilled because I get to lay in front of his fireplace. Of course, I want to visit Grandma too.
