Sometimes you meet people that seem to be quite intelligent, yet there are gaps in that intelligence that surprise you. I guess that’s a very polite way of saying that some people just don’t seem to have any common sense when it comes to certain things. Take my grandmother, for example. I love her to death, but she’s lived too long on this Earth to not realize that leaving the windows open while the air conditioner is on is a bad thing. It’s kind of ironic, because my own mom taught me this. I guess she learned the hard way from Grandma’s bad example. Grandma thought that leaving the air conditioner on while the windows were open was getting the best of both worlds. She got the nice, cool air coming from the air conditioner, but she also had the fresh air blowing in to keep things from getting stale. She even said that it balanced things out so that the fresh air and sunshine would make sure that it wouldn’t get too cold from the A/C! If she wanted fresh air and sunshine, she would have been much better off simply taking a step outside for a while. Now, there are many reasons why this was a bad idea, but the main one is that her air conditioner was working harder to cool her home. That meant energy bill costs would go up. I can’t believe her mother never told her, “We’re not cooling down the whole neighborhood!” Maybe they didn’t have air conditioning when she was a child. I’m trying to get through to my grandma about this air conditioner problem, but an old dog doesn’t learn new tricks, and doesn’t want to be told how the world works!
