Occasionally you meet people that seem to be quite intelligent, yet there are gaps in that intelligence that surprise you.
I guess that’s a absolutely polite way of saying that some people just do not seem to have any proper sense when it comes to particular things.
Take my Grandma, for example. I care about her to death, but she’s lived too long on this Earth to not realize that leaving the windows open while the a/c is on is a terrible thing. It’s kind of ironic, because my own Dad taught me this. I guess she learned the taxing way from Grandma’s terrible example, then grandma thought that leaving the a/c on while the windows were open was getting the best of both worlds. She got the nice, cool air coming from the a/c, but she also had the fresh air blowing in to keep things from getting stale. She even said that it balanced things out so that the fresh air plus sun would make sure that it wouldn’t get too cold from the air conditioning! If she wanted fresh air plus sunshine, she would have been much better off simply taking a step outside for a while, now, there are many reasons why this was a terrible idea, but the main one is that her a/c was working harder to cool her home. That meant energy bill costs would go up. I cannot feel her mother never told her, “We’re not cooling down the whole neighborhood!” Maybe they didn’t have air conditioning when she was a child. I am trying to get through to my Grandma about this a/c problem, but an ancient dog doesn’t learn new tricks, plus doesn’t want to be told how the world works!
