AC maintenance is necessary

After buying a house, moving in and unpacking, it took me a while to schedule service for the air conditioner. There was cleaning and painting to do, repairs to make and lots of expenses. We needed a new water heater, realized there was no insulation in the attic and found that many of the power outlets weren’t working. There were issues with clogged drains, leaky faucets and a smoking oven. I was very frustrated by a musty smell that I couldn’t get rid of. I devoted a great deal of time to bleaching floors, countertops, sinks, toilets and tubs. I washed windows, laundered curtains and beddings and even scrubbed the walls. I couldn’t get rid of that odor. When I finally got around to setting up maintenance for the air conditioner, I learned the source of that smell. The inside of the cooling unit was completely overrun with mold, mildew, algae, bacteria and dust. Every time the air conditioner started up, those contaminants were becoming airborne and getting circulated throughout the house. My family was breathing them in. It’s no surprise that my kids were sneezing and complaining of headaches. My husband was having difficulty sleeping and I was constantly congested. Fortunately a thorough cleaning, adjustment and tuning performed by the HVAC technician significantly improved the hygiene, smell and comfort of our new home. I also invested into duct system cleaning and sealing. Because of these intensive services, the cooling system now puts out a lot more air, doesn’t need to run as often and uses less energy. My monthly electric bills are significantly lower.
