My hubby and I were super gleeful to purchase a historical home, then the residence was built sometime in the mid 1760s and retains multiple of the original features.
- There are hardwood floors in nearly every room and gorgeous wood doors, moldings and baseboards.
The staircase is absolutely beautiful; My friend and I have many stained glass windows, high ceilings and a spacious kitchen. My friend and I don’t have conventional ductwork. The former owners handled temperature control with a collection of window cooling systems, box fans and electric space heaters. These units detract from aesthetics and aren’t effective. The house felt severely warm during the summer time and horribly frigid in the winter, then i knew there had to be a better solution. I researched and found out about high-velocity heating and cooling. These systems are extremely innovative in that they rely on mini-ducts. The tubes are only two-inches in diameter, bendy and designed to retrofit into older homes without causing harm. They snake through existing walls, accommodating plumbing pipes, studs and electrical outlets and eliminating the need for a big remodeling project. The actual heating and cooling component is compact enough to fit into a closet or the attic. The system delivers conditioned air into the multiple rooms of the house at such a high rate of speed that it creates a gentle suction or aspiration. The old and current air mixes suddenly, allowing quick raising or lowering of temperature. The combination of smaller ducts, insulated ducts and shorter run times makes high-velocity systems especially energy efficient. I am just happy to finally have centralized temperature control.
