Keep a clear space around the condenser unit of your HVAC system

Sometimes, you don’t realize that there is a simple solution to a problem that is staring you right in the face.

I take great pride in the landscaping I do around my home.

I joke with my wife that it would be a lot easier to just simply have a giant rock garden around the entirety of the home instead of having to constantly trim the grass and the hedges and other shrubs that we enjoy decorating our residence with. Well, I enjoy our home and the way our land looks, but recently I ran into a problem concerning how close some of that shrubbery is to our HVAC system’s condenser units. The condenser is the outside component of an HVAC unit that is box shaped and has the fans blowing inside. After one particularly bad storm, I remember there being debris all over our property. Unfortunately, a large piece of wood lodged itself in one of the condenser units. It caused a lot of rattling and noise and I ended up having to call out an HVAC technician to dislodge it. All the while, it was making horrible noise and I was afraid that I was going to end up breaking my entire air conditioning system! Thankfully the HVAC technician came out relatively quickly and removed the foreign object from the condenser unit. He told me something I hadn’t really thought of before. He suggested that I keep as much clear space around the condenser units as possible. I decided that I would be better off transplanting some of my shrubs and moving other lawn objects to keep them far away from the air conditioning equipment.
