When I was 13 years seasoned my parents took me to the doctor because I started having complications breathing during the night.
- They were super scared because I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air; Once my friend and I made the decision to go to the doctor I was informed that I had asthma.
I knew that living with asthma would not be fun, but it was something that I would have to deal with. I’m truly sensitive to air quality and I have to make sure that while I’m at home the thermostat is set to a perfect temperature. So when I decided that I wanted to go away for college and live in a dorm with my parents, I was genuinely nervous. She told me that I had never lived alone and it might be a reality check for me, I had already spoken with the college I wanted to go to and they let me know I’d be able to have my own room and control my own thermostat. I was genuinely pretty excited to have my own dorm because normally it’s only reserved for the older youngsters, and being able to control the air-conditioning in my room and have my own thermostat was game changing for me and my asthma. I was so excited to be able to go to college. I willbe able to live on my own without my parents seeing my every move. I adore them but sometimes they can be quite overbearing when it comes to my asthma.
